Daisy Hancock Byrd ‘80 and Thomas R. Byrd Community Fellows Scholarship Endowment in the Center for Service Learning

An endowed scholarship established by Daisy Hancock Byrd ‘80 and Thomas R. Byrd. This scholarship will be administered by the JMU Center for Service Learning (CS-L) within its Madison Community Fellows Program, an initiative that strategically places Madison Community Fellows in community agencies selected on the basis of their need for a bright, motivated student, as well as the agencies’ capacity to provide a meaningful learning experience for each student. . It is expected that the scholarship recipients will benefit from structured opportunities to reflect upon and share their experiences with CS-L leadership and other Madison Community Fellows. Recipients will be selected through a process approved by the Director of the Center for Community Service Learning.

  1. The Byrd Scholarship is a part of Madison Community Scholars (MCS) housed in Community Service-Learning. The MCS co-hort provides community, support, and accountability for the Byrd, Thomas Family, and Henley and George scholarships collectively. There are nuances to each scholarship’s criteria, however, their aim and work is similar. Please apply for the Byrd, Thomas Family and Henley and George scholarships separately to receive full consideration. Save your responses to this application to a word document so that you can copy and paste them to the other two scholarship applications for which MCS consists, pending you meet their nuanced eligibility requirements.
