Little-McIntyre Endowed Vocal Scholarship In the College of Visual and Performing Arts

An endowed scholarship established by John A. Little, Janet A. Little and Michael D. McIntyre. Through this endowment, the Donors intend for scholarships to be awarded to an entering voice or piano student in a critical-need area and is renewable through the student’s senior year. This scholarship will be awarded to a new student when the previous student has completed his/her fourth year or has failed to meet the criteria. The critical-need area is designated as contralto, tenor, baritone or bass voice, or alternatively, vocal piano accompaniment with the first priority being voice. Should no vocal recipient be identified, a piano accompanist may be awarded the scholarship. Should no sufficiently outstanding voice student or piano accompanist be identified, the Donors wish the scholarship award to roll back into the corpus for that one year.

The Little-McIntyre Endowed Vocal Scholarship should be used for recruiting purposes based on the following criteria for the recipients:
– Remains a music major.
– Meets the scholarship requirements for the School of Music.
– Following consultation with the student’s voice professor and advisor, the student will audition each semester for a mainstage Opera Theatre production (opera or musical theatre), and will accept any offered roles.
- The student does not have to perform in the production, but must audition.
– Participates in at least one choir each semester.

Little-McIntyre Scholars will be selected by the JMU vocal faculty in the School of Music. Priority should be given to the best student to fit the criteria who exemplifies excellence and ambition to excel in the Music program. The vocal faculty will communicate the selected recipient to the Director of the School of Music, who will administer the scholarship.
