Alice Varner Hupman Scholarship

An annual scholarship established with a testamentary gift from Betty Hupman Payne ’53 in memory of her mother, Mrs. Alice Varner Hupman, who attended the State Normal & Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg and taught in both Bath and Highland Counties.

Through this scholarship fund, Mrs. Payne intends to assist students whose primary residence is located in Bath County, Virginia or Highland County, Virginia. Two recipients will be chosen annually – one from Highland County and one from Bath County. The selection of Hupman Scholars shall be made in a manner determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and will follow the university’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
