Robert E. and Marie Caton (’57) White Scholarship Endowment in Educational Leadership
An endowed scholarship established by Marie Caton (’57) White with a gift from her estate.
Mrs. White recognizes the value of education at every level and the need to make higher education an affordable option for motivated students. After moving from Virginia, Mrs. White and her late husband, Bob, settled in Southern California where she held several positions in the El Rancho Unified School District including teacher, guidance counselor, vice principal and principal. In his lifetime, her husband also appreciated education and supported her pursuit of a graduate degree to help further her career. Robert E. White was a graduate and enthusiastic alumnus of the University of Southern California. Through this scholarship endowment, Mrs. White intends to provide the financial resources annually to support educators hoping to pursue leadership positions in school and/or district offices.
To be named a Robert and Marie White Scholar, recipients must be a graduate student residing in Virginia, enrolled in the College of Education’s Educational Leadership Master’s & Certificate Program with demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is renewable up to one year. The selection of Robert and Marie White Scholars shall be made each year in a manner determined by the Dean and Associate Dean of the College of Education, in coordination with the Program Director for Educational Leadership. The selection of recipients will follow the university’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships that are in effect at the time this gift is received. If the Educational Leadership Master’s and Certificate Program ceases to exist or there are no qualified candidates in a given year, then the scholarship may go to a graduate student in the College of Education’s Masters of Arts program.
