Mary Sue Whitt (‘60) Scholarship Endowment

An endowed scholarship established by Ms. Mary Sue Whitt.

The scholarship will be awarded to one student whose primary residence is in Southwest Virginia and who demonstrates financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, with first preference to a student pursuing teacher licensure. Southwest Virginia is defined as the following counties: Lee, Wise, Dickerson, Buchanan, Scott, Russell, Tazewell, Washington, Smyth, Bland, Giles, Grayson and Wythe and the cities/towns of Galax, Hillsville, Marion, Bluefield, Richlands, Abingdon, Bristol, Norton, Wise, Covington, Clifton Forge, Wytheville, Martinsville, Cedar Bluff, Tazewell, Chilhowie, Appalachia, Pennington Gap, Big Stone Gap, Honaker, and Grundy. If no student meets the teacher licensure criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the geographic and financial need criteria. If the scholarship is given outside of the College of Education, the caveat stands that the scholarship will be awarded to a College of Education student the following year if available. The scholarship is renewable for students pursing teacher licensure. Scholarships will be awarded in a manner determined by the Dean of the College of Education, or designee, following the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
