The Hinshaw - Warren Scholarship Fund in support of the Honors College at James Madison University

An annual Scholarship established by Dr. Russell G. Warren. It is also noted that the fund is established in honor of John M. Hinshaw.

This scholarship will fall within the guidelines of the Hillcrest Scholarships and provide opportunities for honors students with demonstrated financial need to engage in transformational off-campus experiences. A Hinshaw-Warren scholar will be selected on the basis of the quality of their proposed experience, their academic achievement and intellectual promise, and the potential for a meaningful transformational impact on their lives. It is intended that this scholarship will be in addition to qualifying University financial aid or scholarships and is not intended to replace aid or scholarship funds otherwise available to this need based student. The appointment of Hinshaw-Warren scholars will be made in a manner determined by the Dean of the Honors College in consultation with the Dean of University Studies after qualification is confirmed by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

As a secondary preference, in the event the Hillcrest Scholarship competition does not take place or a qualifying candidate is not identified in a given year, the Hinshaw-Warren Scholarship Fund may benefit an outstanding undergraduate student scholar who wishes to study abroad. To qualify for a scholarship, a student must: a) be an outstanding freshman or sophomore in good academic standing and enrolled in the Honors College; b) have an expressed interest in participating in one of the Honors study abroad programs; and c) demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Applications are submitted through the Hillcrest Scholarship Fund process.
