Dorothy Hanlon Frederick Scholarship Endowment
An endowed scholarship established by Dr. Joan Frederick to honor the memory of her mother, Dorothy Hanlon Frederick.
This endowment will provide financial resources to students who are children of James Madison University employees. To be named A Dorothy Hanlon Frederick scholar, recipients must be full-time students in good standing who demonstrate financial need as determined by the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and be children of staff employees. It is the donor’s intentions that these awards go to children of full time James Madison University employees who work in support service areas such as janitorial, administrative, or other areas where employees perform essential but often under-recognized services. The staff members must have a minimum of 24 months full-time employment at James Madison University and maintain full-time employment during the period the scholarship award is in effect. Preference will be given to students who are engaged in the study of the humanities as their major focus. Once a student is named a Dorothy Hanlon Frederick scholar, this scholarship may be renewed for up to two additional years. On a year-to-year basis, this endowment will provide funds sufficient for one or more Dorothy Hanlon Frederick Scholarships to be awarded, with the number and amount of scholarships to be determined at the discretion of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
Dr. Frederick has reiterated her determination that her gift be in no way used to support athletics or athletic scholarships.
