Sentara Scholars Scholarship Fund

An annual scholarship established by Sentara Healthcare which is partnering with James Madison University and other select educational and education support organizations on a new student support program, Sentara Scholars.

The Sentara Scholars Scholarship Fund will provide financial resources to be used for direct tuition assistance and/or emergency funding for students interested or enrolled in healthcare or healthcare-related programs, departments or tracts.

JMU may use up to 20% of the total gift for emergency use funds. At least 80% of the total gift must be used for direct tuition assistance. Emergency use scholarships will follow procedures already established.

Selected students will be eligible to receive up to 50% of their annual tuition cost in funding or 100% of approved emergency funding requests, subject to existing scholarship policies.

Students must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll at JMU during the distribution period, be in good academic standing as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and be in compliance with the institution’s Student Standards of Conduct and Policies.

Students must be an in-state resident and must be enrolled in a healthcare or healthcare-related undergraduate or professional degree or certificate programs to include but not limited to the following: Nursing. Health Services Administration, Occupational Therapy, Physician’s Assistant, Audiology, Psychology, Social Work and Dietetics.

Student must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. In addition to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, a recommendation for student recipients can be made by deans, department heads and other academic affairs leadership.

Scholarships will be administered a manner determined at the discretion of the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and shall follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
