College of Arts and Letters Opportunity Scholarship
The Opportunity Scholarship provides awards up to $5,000 to support study abroad/study away, research travel, internships, and other opportunities that advance students’ academic and professional goals. The scholarship can fund travel expenses (flights, mileage), program fees, housing, and other costs associated with participating in the proposed opportunity.
Eligibility Requirements
- Continuing JMU undergraduate student with a College of Arts and Letters major
- Earned at least 12 credit hours at JMU
- GPA of 2.0 or greater
- Demonstrated financial need

- Provide a short description of the proposed opportunity and how it will advance your academic and professional goals.
- Provide a brief synopsis of when and how the funding will be used.
- Please upload your completed Budget Form found on the scholarship description website.
- Provide the contact information for two references with name, e-mail address, phone number, and relationship to you. References can be faculty members, advisors, internship coordinators, employers, or others who can provide insights into your academic and professional work. At least one reference should be able to speak directly to the proposed opportunity (e.g., director of your study abroad program or internship supervisor).
