Jean D. Acton Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship established with a bequest from Jean D. Acton to provide scholarships to and/or financial support for research activities of recipients who shall be selected by a committee comprised of three members of the Department of Biology, in consultation with a representative of the Financial Aid Office of James Madison University. The selection committee shall be established and maintained in accordance with directives made by the Department of Biology. Recipients shall be undergraduate students in biology studying in the particular area of microbiology or immunology and having a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, or alternatively, recipients shall be graduate students in biology interested in the study of immunology and having a graduate record examination score in the seventieth percentile; in either case the selection committee shall choose the recipients with the greatest financial need. [Qualified candidates should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms (FAFSA) and submit to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The FAFSA is one means of determining the ranking of financial need among qualified candidates.] Recipients may receive multiple gifts. Should the selection committee be unable to select a recipient in any one year, the income shall be accumulated and distributed in the following year based on the aforementioned criteria.
