Morven Park Scholarship in the James Madison Center for Civic Engagement

An annual scholarship established by the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation, Inc.

Three scholarships of $3,000 each will be awarded per year to students who are incoming freshmen who graduated from Loudoun County Public Schools and participated in at least one Morven Park Center for Civic Impact lesson or program between kindergarten and 12th grade. Participation information must be submitted with the scholarship application. In a 500-word essay, applicants must describe the skills they learned during the Morven Park Center for Civic Impact lesson(s) and explain how those skills inform their civic participation today. They must also indicate their intention to participate in James Madison University Center for Civic Engagement (“JMU CCE”) activities and events.

The scholarships are renewable for up to three years, provided that funding is available, for recipients who participate in the JMU CCE activities and events. If a recipient is unable to complete their four years at JMU, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student within that same cohort (i.e. replace sophomore with sophomore). Scholarships will be administered at the discretion of the Director of the JMU CCE and follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.

The first cohort of students was for incoming freshmen in the Fall 2023 semester. The second cohort will be for Morven Park Scholars who are incoming freshmen in the Fall 2024.
