Galgano Rising Scholar Award Endowment
An endowed scholarship funded through an endeavor with gifts from alumni, parents, faculty & staff, and friends of the University who wished to honor Dr. Michael J. Galgano, long time Academic Unit Head of the Department of History.
The Galgano Rising Scholar Award Endowment will provide funds annually to a student identified within the Department of History as the most deserving incoming freshman from outside the Commonwealth of Virginia. The award will be renewable for the student’s sophomore year, as long as the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA. If this requirement is not met, a new incoming freshman recipient will be selected. The recipient will be selected by a committee of three individuals, consisting of the Head of the Department of History (or designated representative) and two other tenured or tenure-track members of the Department of History faculty. This scholarship will be administered at the discretion of the Academic Unit Head of the Department of History and will follow the University’s guidelines for awarding scholarships.
