Frances Hughes Pitts Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established in memory of Frances Hughes Pitts, a member of the Class of 1929, from funds provided by her husband and son, her brother, and friends of the family.

The Frances Hughes Pitts Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student majoring in the natural sciences who demonstrates personal integrity, intellectual potential, a commitment to excellence, and superior writing ability. Financial need may be considered but is not a requirement to receive the scholarship. The scholarship may be renewed during the recipient’s undergraduate study, as long as a GPA of at least 2.50 is maintained. Recipients shall be chosen by a committee of the JMU College of Science & Mathematics.
