Tom Byrne (’91) Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Justice Studies
An endowed scholarship established by Benjamin R. Farmery (’92) to honor the memory of Thomas J. Byrne (’91) who majored in Finance and was an active brother in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. The son of a retired DEA Special Agent, Tom Byrne joined the DEA just days after graduating from James Madison University. DEA Supervisory Special Agent Thomas J. Byrne died on August 30, 2008, and his name was placed on the DEA Wall of Honor commemorating those who have fallen in the line of duty at the Department of Drug Enforcement Administration. This endowed scholarship will create a lasting legacy in Tom’s memory.
Through this endowment, the Donor intends to provide financial resources annually for a student enrolled in Justice Studies. Recipients must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Scholarships are renewable for up to three years and will be awarded in a manner determined by the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, in consultation with the Justice Studies Program Head, and shall follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
