Jerry & Nancy Bolton and Family Scholarship Endowment for Biology in the College of Science & Mathematics
An endowed scholarship established by Nancy Bolton. The Donor created this scholarship endowment in recognition of daughters Deborah Bolton Grimm ’74 and Ellen Bolton McDorman ’78 – both of whom graduated from the university with degrees in Biology – and, in their honor, she directs that each year, one scholarship shall be awarded to an outstanding student whose studies are focused on the discipline of Biology as the student’s major. The scholarship may be awarded to an incoming freshman, provided that the student demonstrates an intention to pursue the study of Biology as the student’s major.
To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must demonstrate a need for financial assistance, as determined by the university’s Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Once a student is named a Bolton Scholar, this scholarship may be renewed, but in no case may a student receive this scholarship for more than five years of study in all. At a time in the future when the scholarship endowment may be large enough to support the awarding of more than one scholarship each year, the Donor directs that the university shall be within its discretion to do so. The scholarship decisions will be made in a manner determined at the discretion of the head of the Biology Department, in consultation with the Dean for the College of Science & Mathematics.
