Kay Veith Field Archaeology Award

Established to honor Kay Veith upon her retirement from JMU. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology will present the Kay Veith Field Archaeology Award every spring to a student who meets the following criteria: has a 3.25 in anthropology coursework; has demonstrated an aptitude for field archaeology; is proposing a specific field project, such as completing an honors thesis involving a field archaeology project, participating in archaeological field instruction, or engaging in a directed study using a field project. The recipient will be chosen by a committee made up of the department head, assistant department head, and two archaeology faculty (full-time or part-time) from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at JMU.

Applications will consist of a resume, an unofficial transcript, a description of the proposed project, a personal statement, and the name of one reference who can speak to the applicant’s field skills. Applications will be due by March 15, with the award to be presented at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology Honors Ceremony in April.
