Constance Cleek Thompson '25 Scholarship Endowment in Education

An endowed scholarship established in loving memory of Constance Cleek Thompson ’25 by; Johnnie Lou Thompson Terry ’54, Carol Thompson Wingo ’49, Mary Peyton Peebles, and other members of Constance Cleek Thompson’s family to support a scholarship to provide financial resources to encourage students in their pursuit of higher education. This scholarship shall be awarded to incoming freshmen students, with a first preference given to students from Bath County and Highland County in the Commonwealth of Virginia – and, a second preference given to students from another of Virginia’s rural counties. In all cases, the student shall be expected to have demonstrated a need for financial assistance, as determined by the University’s Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Also, the Donor directs that the scholarship should be awarded to students who demonstrate in the application process a career interests in Education, with a first preference given to students whose career interest is in Elementary Education.

The scholarship will be renewable for up to four academic years beyond the first year that the student receives this scholarship, provided that the student maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). In the event that there may be no student concentrating in Education who may be eligible for this scholarship in any particular year, then the scholarship shall be awarded by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships in such a year without regard to the Education-related preference on a one-year-only basis.
