Jessica Maureen Chabot '99 Endowment

Established by Guy and Patricia Chabot, along with their daughter Kristen Parrott, in memory of their daughter, Jessica Maureen Chabot, an alumna of James Madison University, in the Class of 1999. As a student, Jessie was in the Early Childhood Education program and Jessie earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. She was very involved in the Community Service Learning program while at Madison. During her years as an undergraduate, Jessie was happiest when she was working in the Young Children’s Program and when she was doing her student teaching. Mr. & Mrs. Chabot chose to honor their daughter’s memory by creating this legacy which supports these activities in the College of Education at James Madison University. They especially hope that the scholarship awards provided through this endowment will enhance the educational experiences of students who are as excited about the prospect of educating young children as their daughter Jessica was. The Jessica Maureen Chabot ‘99 Endowment, benefits James Madison University by providing financial resources to support two purposes; specifically, the Jessica Maureen Chabot ’99 Scholarship (known as the “Jessie Scholarship”) and the Jessica Maureen Chabot ’99 Grant for the Young Children’s Program in the College of Education. Each year, the appointment of one (or more) student(s) as a Jessie Scholar shall follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships, as such guidelines may be in effect from time to time, and the following additional criteria; specifically, a student must: Demonstrate high academic achievement, as evidenced by an overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of the student’s appointment to receive this scholarship; be a 4th or 5th year student enrolled in either the Early Childhood Education (K-3) or the Elementary Education (K-6) licensure programs, have declared a minor field of concentration in Early Childhood Education (K-3) or Elementary Education (K-6); and be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The manner by which the student scholar is determined each year shall be at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Education. Once appointed to be a Jessie Scholar, the student shall receive the scholarship funds during the semester in which they are fulfilling their full-time student teaching requirements.
