Jerry and Esther Minskoff Scholarship Endowment in Special Education

An endowed scholarship established by Dr. Margaret M. (’80) Kyger and William B. Kyger, Jr. to recognize the significant role Dr. J. Gerald Minskoff and Dr. Esther H. Minskoff played in Dr. Margaret Kyger’s life as mentors and for the support they provided while she was a student in the Special Education Master’s Program.

To be named a Minskoff Scholar, students must be enrolled full time with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and be a rising senior in James Madison University’s Bachelor’s of Science in Special Education program in the College of Education. The recipient will have demonstrated excellence and high levels of dedication in the reading practicum during their junior year.

Applicants must submit a one-page letter discussing lessons learned from the reading practicum and how they will incorporate these lessons as a special educator.

The selection of students to receive this award will be made at the discretion of the program faculty for Special Education in conjunction with the Academic Unit Head for Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities Beyond the above criteria the appointment of students to receive this scholarship will follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
