Witherspoon Family Scholarship Endowment in Support of Summer Research and Scholarly Activity in Honors
An endowed scholarship established by F. Douglas Witherspoon and Margaret E. Witherspoon. Mr. and Mrs. Witherspoon’s daughters, Laura Witherspoon (’12) and Catherine Witherspoon (’17) were among the select Honors College students at James Madison University.
Donor Criteria
 Restrictions
•	Enrolled in the Honors College.
•	Preference for student with Sophomore or Junior standing-by credits.
•	Preference for student demonstrating a strong interest and desire to study within the field of research or scholarly activity proposed by a faculty member.
Administration
•	Preference for the award to rotate annually among student recipients in different colleges within the university, and for a three-year period to transpire before awards can be made again to students engaged in research or scholarly activity in a particular college.
The appointment of Witherspoon Family scholars will be made in a manner determined by the Dean of Honor’s College. Beyond these criteria, the selection of the scholarship recipients will follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
