Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr. - D. Lathan Mims Scholarship Endowment in Journalism - Annual

An endowed scholarship established in 1985 and permanently endowed in 1999 to provide funds annually for a scholarship to a rising senior within the School of Media Arts & Design. The selection will be based on the following criteria (with the second and third criteria serving as tie-breakers in the selection process):

1. A demonstrated commitment to journalism.
2. Academic achievement.
3. Financial need.

Please Note – Financial need is not intended to be a firm requirement for the award, but may be a factor taken into consideration at the discretion of the selection committee.

The selection of students as Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr. – D. Lathan Mims Scholars will be made by a committee, appointed by the director for the School of Media Arts & Design. The composition of this committee shall be inclusive of faculty members in the School of Media Arts & Design and a representative of the Daily News Record or its successor.
