R. Faye Pleasants (‘66) Scholarship Endowment in the College of Education
“An endowed scholarship established by R. Faye Pleasants (‘66).
To be named a Pleasants Scholar, recipients must:
- demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, - be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia with preference to a student from Southwest Virginia and a first-generation college student, - be a full-time student and enrolled in the Elementary Education PK-6 teacher licensure program in the College of Education, - have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with preference given to student with a 3.3 GPA or higher, and - submit an essay (one or two paragraphs) describing activities, influences, leadership experiences etc. and how that influenced the student to pursue the teaching profession.Scholarships are renewable as long as the student continues to meet the criteria and will be awarded at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Education following the University’s guidelines for awarding of scholarships.
When the endowment market value reaches $100,000, two scholarships may be awarded with the annual endowment allocation split evenly between the two recipients. As the endowment grows, additional students may be added over time at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Education."
