K/STEM+ Business Scholarship Endowment Fund

A Term Endowment established by Rusty Shepard (’86).

It is the Donor’s intention that thirteen or more students benefit from the scholarship and that fifty-one awards be given over a period of six years.

Donor Criteria
Restrictions
• Undergraduate students.
• Students must be graduates of Kempsville High School in Kempsville, Virginia. Students must have attended Kempsville High School for at least two and a half years prior to graduation.
• Students intend to pursue or are pursuing a degree within the College of Integrated Science and Engineering, the College of Science and Mathematics, or the College of Business.
• Students must have completed four math and four science courses prior to high school graduation.
• Students must submit a recommendation letter from a Kempsville High School teacher.
• In years where a student graduating from Kempsville High School does not qualify or a K/STEM + Business Scholar becomes ineligible for scholarship renewal, another Kempsville High School Student who is a student at the University and meets the criteria could fulfill the remaining scholarship period.

Administration
• One second-year student will be selected to receive the scholarship in academic year 2026-2027 and is eligible for two additional renewals as long as the student continues enrollment in the required degree track and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Four freshmen will be selected in academic year 2026-2027 and in each of the following two academic years. These scholarships are renewable for up to three years as long as the student continues enrollment in the required degree tract and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Each student is awarded $12,500 per year.
• In the event that there are multiple qualified students, the greatest financial need will be the determining factor.

Guardian
The guardian of this account will be the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Recipients will be selected at the discretion of the guardian following the University’s guidelines for awarding scholarships.
