School of Media Arts and Design Incoming First-Year Scholarship Application

This application acts as the one application needed to be considered for the incoming first-year student scholarships in the School of Media Arts and Design. Currently the scholarships all relate to students who are intending to be involved in and pursue a journalism concentration at James Madison University.

As an applicant, you will be considered for the following scholarships:
  • Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr. – D. Lathan Mims Scholarship Endowment in Journalism
  • Alison Bailey Parker (’12) Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Journalism
  • Steven B. Buckhantz (’77) Broadcast Journalism Scholarship Fund in the School of Media Arts and Design

  1. Please list your experience with journalism, including work in student media, participation in workshops/conferences, freelancing, and/or experiences in internships, fellowships, or shadowing of professional journalist.
  2. Please write a statement of up to 500 words describing your passion for and commitment to journalism — and how you’d like to further develop your journalistic skills at JMU.
  3. Please provide the name and email address of an individual who can serve as a reference for your journalism abilities/experience.
  4.
