Hillcrest Honors Scholarship Endowment

An endowed scholarship established through an endeavor with gifts and pledges from lead donor Anne L. Collins and other alumni and friends of the University.

The Hillcrest Honors Scholarship Endowment will provide funds annually for honors students to engage in transformations off-campus enrichment experiences. Scholarships are available to outstanding second year honors students and provide financial assistance to carry out an off-campus summer enrichment experience following the third year. The Hillcrest Scholars are selected based on the quality of their proposed project, on their academic achievements and intellectual promise, and on their ability to make a significant contribution to society in the future. The Hillcrest Scholarships help fulfill the JMU Honors College’s mission of providing an “academic community engaging highly motivated and intellectually gifted students in exceptional experiences that develop excellence in leadership, scholarship, and service.” As a secondary preference, in the event the Hillcrest Scholarship competition does not take place or a qualifying candidate is not identified in a given year, the scholarship may benefit an outstanding undergraduate student scholar in Honors who wishes to study abroad. Responsibility for overseeing the selection and awarding process lies with the Dean of the Honors College. Beyond the above criteria, the appointment of a student to receive this award will follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
