Carolyn Morrison Chapman '61 Memorial Scholarship Endowment for the College of Education

An endowed scholarship established by J. French Chapman in loving memory of his wife, Carolyn Chapman. Mr. Chapman notes, “No one got more from their time at Madison than my belated wife”.

Every year this endowment will provide financial resources for a scholarship to be presented to one outstanding student in the College of Education, without regard to the student’s particular year of study, from incoming freshmen to rising post graduate students. To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must (a) be a declared education major and be in good standing with the university, (b) demonstrate financial need, as determined by the University’s Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships; and, © demonstrate a commitment to community service. Please note that if a student under consideration for this scholarship is an incoming freshman, then the scholar selection process will review the student’s demonstrated engagement in community service as a high school student. In all cases, once a student is appointed a Carolyn Morrison Chapman ’61 Scholar, the scholarship may be renewed for up to four academic years beyond the first year of study, provided that the student continues to meet the above-described criteria and remains a full-time student. The Donor directs that the annual appointment of the Carolyn Morrison Chapman ’61Scholar shall be determined by a committee review. The committee shall consist of the Dean for the College of Education and the Associate Deans in the College of Education. In the event that a need may arise at any time in the future for this committee review process to change, for whatever reason, the Dean for the College of Education may act with sole discretion to modify the committee review process so as to ensure that the Donor’s intentions and selection criteria are otherwise preserved and fulfilled.
